A New Mission

Afghanistan has gone through wars and is facing the impact of violence even today. It’s a barren country with hardly any growth of vegetation. And, as it seems, in the field of formation there could also be done a lot.

Seeing the plight of Afghanistan the Jesuits felt called to be at the service of this poor country. There is a non-profit international organization named “Jesuits Refugee Service (J.R.S)” established by the Jesuits in 2003. This organization is also engaged in Afghanistan. The previous provincial of Poona Jesuits is the present country co-ordinator.

Being a Muslim country, men have no access to enter the world of women in Afghanistan. Therefore, women are needed to serve in the field of education. So, this Father approached our congregation and requested to send two sisters to help the Jesuits. Realizing the need of the hour, we decided to send two sisters. Their task will be to train the teachers to teach English in Afghan schools.
